Abstract: We will sociologically explore the diverse experiences of women in the United States. Through readings, discussions, and entering the community through a service-learning project, we will learn about the lives of many women. We will discuss race, class, sexuality, violence, religion, culture, the work place, the history of feminism, feminist theory, inequality and power, health and reproduction, family, laws, and activism, among other topics. The goal of the course is to develop a capacity to critically examine the situation of Women in Contemporary Society through history, struggles, culture, and contemporary issues.
