Abstract: The New START Treaty is the last remaining nuclear arms agreement between the United States and Russia; the final pillar on which all strategic arms control between the former Cold War rivals rests. A decade on from the treaty's ratification, and only months after its extension, Rose Gottemoeller (the US chief negotiator) offers a riveting and personal behind-the-scenes account of how this treaty came to be.
