Title: COVID-19. The new world order in the tourism and travel industry
Abstract: Resumen.Además de haber interferido en la vida cotidiana de la sociedad, la pandemia ha tachado los logros que varios sectores económicos han alcanzado durante muchos años.El presente artículo muestra una comparación de los daños socioeconómicos en la industria del turismo causados por las epidemias anteriores (SARS, H1N1, H5N1, Ébola) con los causados por la pandemia de COVID-19 cuya lista ya tiene incluido: la bancarrota de las principales compañías del transporte aéreo de Colombia y Chile; la quiebra del 99% de las pequeñas y medianas empresas en Costa Rica y México; la pérdida de la fuente de ingresos del 91% de los habitantes de los países del Caribe (Antigua y Barbuda).Es nada más que el inicio de un proceso profundo en el sector de turismo originado por la caída global de la actividad viajera.Además, en el artículo se analizan los primeros pasos hechos por las organizaciones del sector turístico para mitigar el futuro impacto negativo de la pandemia y se pronostican posibles escenarios de la recuperación del sector hasta el nivel precrisis del año 2019.
