Title: Radar Signature Prediction Using Iterative Physical Optics with Physical Theory of Diffraction
Abstract: In this paper, it is proposed to use iterative physical optics (IPO) in conjunction with physical theory of diffraction (PTD) to improve accuracy in predicting radar cross section (RCS) of an electrically large complex conducting object. In addition to the IPO surface currents, PTD electric and magnetic line currents are introduced along physical edges that are extracted from the triangulated surface representing the object. The computational cost and memory requirements of IPO-PTD are almost the same as those of IPO. Improvements achieved by PTD to account for edge diffractions are demonstrated in comparison with the results of the multi-level fast multipole method (MLFMM) obtained using FEKO commercial electromagnetic simulation software for a tilted trihedron geometry at 10 GHz.
