Title: Polymer science and polymerization methods toward hybrid materials
Abstract: Polymer science can be considered a subfield of material science concerned with synthetic polymers such as plastics and elastomers. Polymers are large substances or macromolecules containing a large number of repeating units of identical or different structures known as monomers (structural units) that are chemically bonded (linkage) to form a long chain. Because of the expansion of the polymer industry, polymers have a range of applications that far exceeds that of any other class of material. This chapter concerns the classifications of polymers and their synthesis methods and characterizations. It discusses their hybrids with inorganic particles to overcome some disadvantages. Furthermore, methods to prepare hybrids are highlighted.
