Abstract: INTRODUCTION Distance education has today evolved from the earlier (and still continued) practice of correspondence education, which is supposed to have been initiated at the University of Wisconsin in the United States, or Pitman's correspondence school in the United Kingdom (Rumble & Latchem, 2004). Distance education has passed through and embraces many applications including open education/open learning, distributed learning, fl exible learning, virtual education/online learning, and blended learning.
