Title: 21st Century, Religius Century from Wasatiyah to Muwazanah
Abstract: The 21st century is a religious century. Religion contains faith, resignation, oneness, and knowledge. Humans must believe, surrender, oneness of God, and be knowledgeable. The characteristics of faith include honesty (shidiq), amanah, tabligh, and intelligence (fathanah), while human characteristics include lust, the world, and shaitan. If the characteristics of humanity return to the characteristics of faith, it means that they have surrendered. If human beings worship God in a place to disperse Him, it means that he has been troubled, and that is unity. If humans have been in that place (where they are in a position), then they have known God, and that is knowledge. If everything has been done, it means that the human will be saved. So, why humans must be religious (faith, surrender, oneness, and knowledge) is due to saving themselves.
Human safety in the 21st century must be accompanied by the advancement of science and technology as a modern feature. Science and technology do not always move in a positive direction, sometimes leading to negative ones. Science and technology are often faced with basic questions about the path that must be taken and science and technology cannot answer it. The question is around the issue of science and technology control in order to continue to support human safety. The question of the human self must lead to the morality, meaning, and purpose of his life rooted in religion. Therefore, must present an ethical direction mechanism for the higher goals of human life
Religion and modernity bring people to the future, and that future is salvation. Religion emphasizes the salvation of the world and the hereafter, while modesty promises the salvation of the world. If sees world life in preparation for entering the afterlife, modernity must not make people forget to build a better world. The fascination with the salvation of the world alone carries the risk of forgetting the purpose of life in the world and the hereafter. Thus, must be an effective guide to justify modernity.
Back to religion in the 21st century which is supported by the advancement of science and technology (often called the digital era) requires a new paradigm in and knowledge. The paradigm appears in the form of revival of religions, both positive such as increasingly good and piety (al-bir and al-takwa), moral majority in the United States, and Terikyo in Japan and negative ones such as bad and hostility (al-itsm and al-'udwan). The rise of also means a change in ideas and actions (‘amal) from inwardlooking-wasatiyah outwarlooking-muwazanah. In essence, inwardlooking-wasatiyah is still considered important, but must be balanced positively with outwardlooking-muwazanah which is more promising and enhances the dignity of religious communities in the 21st century.
