Abstract: The article points out that electronic digital technology will introduce a revolution in our "weltanschauung" comparable to the Copernican, the Darwinistic, and the Freudian revolutions. The contribution of this technology to the attainment of the four human ideals truth, goodness, beauty, and prosperity is evaluated, and it is argued that we must better control the development of the technology. It is suggested that this should be done by focussing on the functional and non-structural aspects of the technology. Consequently organizational and sociological design must be given higher priority and participative design must replace expert design. Furthermore it is argued that electronic digital technology is only warranted on the epistemological and political/economic dimensions of human striving.
