Title: Isotope ratios of lake water in the active crater at Kusatsu-Shirane volcano, Japan
Abstract: Oxygen and hydrogen isotope ratios of the lake water in an active crater at Kusatsu-Shirane volcano show, respectively, 6 and 22‰ higher values than the local meteoric water. A simple mass balance calculation suggests that the enriched water can be produced by the effect of evaporation, and that the isotope ratios of thermal water supplied to the lake is close to that of lake water. The similarity in the ratios may result from a return flow of a seeping lake water.
