The objective of this study was to approximate the droplet size distribution of agro-forestry swirl nozzle discharge by the measured median diameter of the flower pellets formed when discharged into a given quantity of baking flour in a pan. The nozzle discharge was directed at the flour in the tray for about 2 seconds while the system or nozzle supply pressures were set at 100, 200, 300 and400 kPa. Analysis of variance was carried out on the response variable the median or mean geometric diameter of the flour pellets obtained from a Two-Way classification(one observation per cell) of the treatment variables of nozzle type and nozzle supply pressure respectively. Increase in nozzle supply or system pressure results in decrease in median or mean geometric diameter of droplets of the nozzle discharge. The droplets in nozzle discharge from swirl nozzle with swirl chamber length: diameter ratio of 0.5 has the highest median diameter at most of the nozzle supply pressures utilized in the study. A flour pellet method has been developed for the estimation of droplet size distribution of an agroforestry nozzle discharge in this study.Read More
