Abstract: The stable isotopes of oxygen and carbon provide an insight into the paleobiology and paleoecology of foraminifera. This chapter discusses with examples of how understanding about depth habitat, gametogenesis, and photosymbiosis is gained by carefully planned isotope analysis. Important information about the interaction between ecology and evolution in foraminifera is also obtained by oxygen and carbon isotope analysis of the test. It is a promising field of research that combines the evolutionary history of species with its ecology. The application of stable isotope in the evolutionary paleoecology of foraminifera is explained with examples of planktic foraminifera that how they evolved their lifestyle to changing ocean conditions.
