Title: Design of beneficiation scheme of Banded Hematite Jasper using Mineralogical characterization study
Abstract: High alumina & silica content of Indian Iron ore resources require suitable beneficiation techniques to produce quality raw material for steel manufacturing. Banded Hematite Jasper (BHJ) reserves are abundantly available in India but not considered as an ore of Iron for production purposes due to its high Silica content and complex mineralogy. The ore principally consists of Hematite, traces of martite, goethite and limonite. X-Ray diffraction analysis confirmed the presence of silica & iron as major phases with alumina and goethite as minor phases. Sample collected from Barsua area containing 35.32% Fe, 49.10% silica and 2% alumina. The area lies in the famous Jamda-Koira valley of Eastern India. The intricate association of quartz and iron made liberation a tough task. The characterization study along with liberation analysis results revealed that beneficiation of BHJ can only be possible in finer size. A detailed and comprehensive characterization studies done to develop a cost-effective and beneficiation scheme.
