Abstract: Power interacts with law in a number of different ways, including ignoring, evading, or turning a blind eye (move fast and break things), lobbying to make law, or change law in its favour, enforcing the law in its favour (contract), finding loopholes in the law and taking advantage of them, or using the machinery of law (procedural law) to wear down opposition. The use of technology can exacerbate information and knowledge asymmetries, which in turn increases imbalances in power. This presentation looks at the interaction of the technology GPT-3 and its interaction with copyright law and where power lies in that interaction.
