Title: Historical studies in the 21 st century: theoretical frontier
Abstract: The article presents an analysis and an evaluation of theoretical renewal of historical studies for the last 10-15 years. The object of the study is the part of historical knowledge which forms the conceptual foundations for the studies of the past social reality that defines the contemporary professional views of the ‘subject and method’ of historical studies. The article deals with new theories, concepts, the developments of terminology, the use of certain methods of scientific analysis to particular subsystems of the social reality of the past, and with the emergence of new interdiciplinary fields, mutual borrowings and interventions. The informational base of the study is theoretical historical journals; leading historical journals that represent the state of affairs in particular fields of historical studies; sociological journals that publish works on historical sociology, and the monographs of 1950–2011.
