At the first Workshop, there were approximately 65 participants among whom 35 were speakers. The topics discussed were discrete kinetic theory, cellular automata, and the relationship between microscopic/mesoscopic and macroscopic evolution equations. Cellular automata and lattice gas dynamics emerged as main areas of promising research and future applications. At the second Workshop, there were approximately 80 attendants, 20 contributed papers, and 15 invited papers. The main subjects of the papers were general methods to study nonlinear equations, advances in plasma theory, numerical methods, efficient computational schemes, and nonlinear transport problems. The Italian scientists expressed interest in strengthening the collaboration with ORNL in the areas of nonlinear partial differential equations, and discrete dynamics with applications to competitive systems.Read More
