Title: VII. Wissenschaftliche Arbeitstagung in Blankenburg zu Fragen der Aufführungspraxis und Interpretation der Instrumentalmusik in der ersten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts
Abstract: Jeder Kongres, jede Tagung, jedes Kolloquium hat sein eigenes Gesicht. Die musikwissenschaftlichen Tagungen in Blankenburg (Harz), deren Reihe mit der im Juni/Juli 1979 durchgefuhrten jetzt bis Nummer sieben reicht, sind aus den wechselseitigen Beziehungen zwischen Musikwissenschaft und praktisch musikalischer Tatigkeit hervorgegangen und werden dadurch gepragt. Konzerte sowie grosere und kleinere Vortrage, manchmal mit denselben Personen als Agierenden, losen einander ab in einem fruchtbaren Wechselspiel zwischen Theorie und Praxis. Das Thema der diesjahrigen Tagung lautete: Die Improvisation als Bestandteil der Auffuhrungspraxis in der Instrumentalmusik der ersten Halfte des 18. Jahrhunderts. Von Anfang an wurde das weite Arbeitsgebiet uberblickt, als Walther Siegmund-Schultze (Halle) den Stand der Bach-, Handelund Telemann-Forschung in dieser Richtung beschrieb, und Christoph-Hellmut Mahling (Saarbrucken) ein umfassendes Verzeichnis der zeitgenossischen Quellen zur Improvisationspraxis vorlegte und kommentierte. Die Beitrage, die mehr auf Einzelfragen eingingen, teilten sich hauptsachlich in zwei Gruppen: in eine erste die sich mit der Verzierungsund Diminutionspraxis der Melodieinstrumente beschaftigte, und in eine zweite, die sich mit der Ausfuhrung des Generalbasses befaste. Dazu kamen Referate uber die eigentliche Improvisation auf Soloinstrumenten. Besonders wirkungsvoll waren die Beitrage, die sich mit praktischen Demonstrationen in Konzertauffuhrungen verbanden. So sprachen Christiane Jaccottet (Lausanne), die zugleich jeden Tag als Solistin oder Begleiterin am Cembalo Hervorragendes leistete, uber die Ausfuhrung der freien Preludes der franzosischen Cembaloliteratur, z.B. von Louis Couperin und d'Anglebert, und Eduard Melkus (Wien) uber die zahlreichen Moglichkeiten von Verzierung, Diminution und Variation einer solistischen Violinstimme, die er auch praktisch demonstrierte. Zusammen brachten die beiden Kunstler Handeis £-dur Sonate mit Anwendung einer Fulle von reizvollen, sprudelnden Umspielungen zur Auffuhrung. Siegfried Pank (Leipzig), der auch als Gambist das Publikum mehrmals begeisterte, sprach uber die Improvisationsmoglichkeiten seines Instruments, und Gert Oost (Bunnik) zeigte durch Analysen von ausgewahlten, freien Orgelwerken J.S.Bachs wie die Praxis der Orgelimprovisation sich im notierten Notenbild oftmals versteckt. Einige der besprochenen Beispiele gingen in das Programm seines Konzerts auf der schon klingenden kleinen Orgel in der Klosterkapelle ein. Noch mehrere ausgezeichnete Musiker stiegen vom Konzertpodium herab, um an den offentlichen Gesprachen teilzunehmen: Milan Munclinger (Prag), der auch als Flotist und Orchesterleiter mitwirkte, Burkhard Glaetzner (Leipzig/Berlin), der als Oboist und besonders als Interpret sowohl alter als ganz neuer Musik (von Gerhard Rosenfeld und Georg Katzer) den
