Abstract: One important item in the current Old Testament debate is the question of the composition or formation of the biblical books (scrolls). Concerning the Book of Isaiah, this study comes to the conclusion that the hitherto neglected chapters 36-39 do not have the function of an annex, but rather they are the centre of the entire composition. Mount Zion remains forever a secure place for everyone looking for shelter and protection as was the case for the pious king Hezekiah. Thus, the Book of Isaiah is the prophetic scroll which presents Zion as the centre for worshippers coming from Israel and the nations. Some theological thoughts are developped on the relationship between synagoge and church(es) today from this specific aim of the whole composition.
