Within a few months Louis Robert lectured on the text at the Academie des Inscriptions et Belles Lettres in Paris and wrote one of his finest articles on these six hexameter verses, ‘Un oracle grave a Oenoanda ‘. Ramsay MacMullen, in a footnote to his Paganism in the Roman Empire, saluted the achievement of both scholars: ‘Professor Robert ‘s discussion and the work of original discovery by G. E.
