In this study of 1022 participants, the authors conducted a thorough investigation into the genetic and environmental factors associated with acute pancreatitis (AP) episodes prior to the diagnosis of chronic pancreatitis (CP). After adjusting for potential confounding factors, SPINK1 mutation was found to be associated with episodes of AP, indicating that SPINK1 mutation might be critical to the pathogenesis of CP. Although, the authors made significant efforts in providing novel insights clarifying the mechanism of CP, several of the following concerns need to be further addressed.
