Title: ICT in Indian Agriculture: An Overview of the Major Services, Their Penetration and Infrastructural Development
Abstract: Agriculture is one of the most practiced occupations in India. More than half of the workforce in India still belongs to the farming sector. There have been immense efforts to increase the usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Indian agriculture. Technology has transformed the traditional methods of agriculture by bringing real time information at the doorsteps of the farmers through media like telephone, websites and mobile apps. This paper analyses the different ways ICT has been used in Indian agriculture and also makes an attempt to find its impact on productivity. The paper also enlists pioneering schemes launched by government and private organizations to increase ICT usage among the farmers. A discussion on the corresponding infrastructural developments for effective delivery has also been presented.
