Abstract: The neuroendocrine system comprises the hypothalamus, the anterior and posterior pituitary glands, and their respective target organs. Hormones secreted by the hypothalamus regulate anterior pituitary function, whereas posterior pituitary hormones are derived from the hypothalamus directly. Hormones from the pituitary gland circulate in blood and regulate target organ function. Impairments in the secretion of specific hormones within this system contribute to physiological changes with age.
