The spatial patterns and change detection of land-use in China (1981– 2010) are presented accurately by using remote sensing technology in this study. Firstly, a scheme of Support Vector Machine (SVM)–based multitemporal remote sensing image classification is proposed to make annual land-use products over the past 30 years using the data of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) from Land Long Term Data Record (LTDR). Secondly, the spatial patterns of land-use in China over the past 30 years are revealed precisely based on the land-use products. Finally, the change detection of typical land-use, i.e. urban, cropland, grassland and forest, is analyzed based on the time series land-use products.
