Title: Low-carbohydrate diet or low-fat diet, which is better for weight loss?
Abstract: EVIDENCE-BASED ANSWER Patients on very-low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets (<60 g/d carbohydrates or <10% of calories) achieve about 1 to 2 kg more weight loss over 6 to 12 months compared with patients on low-fat diets. Less carbohydrate restriction (<225 g/d or <45% of calories) is not consistently better than a low-fat diet (SOR: A, metaanalyses of RCTs).
