Title: Political Participation and Awareness among the Rural Women in Assam: An Analysis
Abstract: Abraham Lincolns said, Democracy is a system a government of the people, by the people and for the people. While
most of the democracies have given a system which has government elected by all the sections of societies, it is
debatable whether the government comprises of all the diverse sections and importantly whether the government works
for all the people of the democracy. Political participation is the hall mark of a democratic setup. Nature, success and
effectiveness of democracy largely depend on the extent to which equal, effective and actual participation is provided
by the system to all its citizens. Womens equal participation in political activities plays a pivotal role in the
development of the countrys political system. In the political participation of the country women are still behind.
Political participation of rural women in Assam has great significance in terms of understanding the socio-economic
condition of rural women, the problems which are faced by them and also there consciousness and awareness towards
the politics of the state. Its the need of the time to know the problems and to find out the solution, that how we may
create a society where womens are equally participating in all aspects. Now a day it is a very big problem in front of
the state about inequality in between men and women in the society in terms of social, economic and political. This
paper however deals with political participation of women and how they are aware of politically specifically in rural
Assam.
