Title: The European Legal Framework for Automotive On-Board Networks
Abstract: This paper is based on research in the framework of the EVITA project (evita-project.org), an EC-funded project under the 7th Framework Program. The objective of this project, ended in 2011, was to design, to verify, and to prototype a modular, (cost-) efficient security solution for automotive on-board networks in order to protect data within such networks against compromise and, in doing so, to enable secure communication among cars and between cars and infrastructure.. The aim of the legal research within the project was to provide guidance in relation to legal issues encountered within the scope of automotive on-board networks. This paper gives an overview of these legal issues and reports on the results of the legal research within the EVITA project.
