Abstract: In this chapter’s discussion of revelation in Islam it is observed that for the Islamic tradition the Qur’an is revealed through the angel Gabriel to Muhammad over a twenty-year period. Some of the themes of the Qur’an are noted, including the Qur’anic presentation of the nature of God. It is further noted that within Islam in the centuries following the revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad mystics in the Sufi tradition, such as Abū Hāmid al Ghazali, experienced revelations of God and absorption in God.
