Title: ICT applications adoption by Indigenous building contracting firms in Bauchi metropolis
Abstract: Increased Information and communication technology (ICT) adoption among construction organization has enhanced the ability of firms to gain competitive advantage not only locally, but also in the international markets. Despite the advantages that ICT systems offer, Indigenous building contracting firms are often reluctant to abandon their paper-based system and embraced ICT system. This study assess the adoption of ICT among Indigenous building contacting firms in Bauchi metropolis. . A quantitative research method was used based on survey of 80 building contracting firms within Bauchi metropolis. Data was collected using a well-structured questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The result shows that the major ICT tools used by indigenous building contracting firms for rendering their services are Basic ICT Applications. Also the findings revealed that there is a moderate level of ICT adoption for the major areas investigated, which include Cost management, Human resource management, tracking of projects, Project collaboration and Meetings with project team. It is recommended that government and policy makers should intervene, through the provision of incentives and make ICT innovations more affordable, which enhances contracting firms’ inclination to adopt.
