Title: Electronic commerce en het verdwijnen van de intermediair: Feit of fictie?
Abstract: According to disintermediation theory, direct electronic contact between consumers and producers will eliminate the role of intermediaries. This article examines the likelihood of the occurrance of disintermediation. An overview is presented of ideas in literature regarding disintermediation, after which the position of intermediaries in economic theory is addressed. Then, the practical consequences of electronic commerce for intermediaries are looked at.
