Title: 한국 청동기-초기철기시대의 시기구분 -금속기의 출현과 정치체의 등장을 기준으로-
Abstract: The entire Korean Peninsula, Liaodong and Liaoxi regions are within the spatial scope of Korean archaeology in the Bronze Age and Early Iron Age. The author has established that this geographical area as the ancient Korean cultural zone. In the study of ancient Korean cultures, Bronze Age and Early Iron Age started from ca. 20th century B.C. to the late B.C. During this period, Early Bronze Age culture, Lute-shaped bronze dagger culture, Slender bronze dagger culture, and Early Iron Culture appeared one after the other. The formation of early states, including Gojoseon, had also begun during this period. Based on changes in material culture, Early Bronze Age period lasted from the 20th to 10th century B.C. when the Early Bronze Age culture appeared and developed. The Mid Bronze Age spanned from the 9th/8th centuries B.C. when Lute-shaped bronze culture emerged and developed, until the 6th/5th centuries B.C. in Liaoxi, and the 4th century B.C. in Liaodong and the Korean Peninsula. The Late Bronze Age lasted from the 5th to 4th century B.C. in Liaoxi when cultures from the Chinese warring states in the Central Plain were spread to the Shiertaiyingzi Culture zone, and until the 3rd century B.C. in Liaodong and the Korean Peninsula when the Slender bronze dagger culture emerged there. During the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C., Early Iron Age cultures from the Chinese warring states in the Central Plain entered the ancient Korean cultural zone. Gojoseon entered Chinese historical records since around the 4th century B.C. during the Late Bronze Age, even though it is highly likely that Gojoseon emerged during the Mid Bronze Age. Thus, it is possible to use “Gojoseon” as a period marker from the 4th century B.C. Early states such as Gojoseon, Buyeo and Samhan appeared in Chinese records in large numbers in the 3rd and 2nd centuries B.C. during the height of the Early Iron Age. Therefore, Gojoseon, representing early states during that time, can be used as a period marker for this particular period in the ancient Korean cultural zone.
