Abstract: Graphical Abstract Bimetallische Spinelloxide sind effiziente Katalysatoren für die Aktivierung von Peroxymonosulfat (PMS), der katalytische Mechanismus ist jedoch unklar. Die kritische Rolle der Mn-O-Kovalenz für die intrinsische Aktivität von Co3−xMnxO4 und ein neuer Mechanismus der Co/Mn-Synergie werden von Wen-Wei Li et al. in ihrem Forschungsartikel auf S. 278 aufgezeigt. Co verstärkt die Mn-O-Kovalenz in der oktaedrischen Konfiguration von Co3−xMnxO4, was die Ladungstransferenergie der MnOh-PMS-Wechselwirkung senkt und die MnVI/MnIII-Redoxzyklen drastisch beschleunigt.
