Title: UNEASINESS BETWEEN TRADITION-BOUND PARENTS AND MODERN CHILDREN OF THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY: A GLIMPSE OF SHASHI DESHPANDES AND THEN . . . ?
Abstract: The parent-children relationship is one that nurtures the physical, emotional and social development of the children. It is a unique bond that nurtures the holistic growth and development of a child. For children, parents and families are a source of care and emotional support. But, at times, they give importance to friends that they become moody and uncommunicative towards parents. The adolescent children‟s attitudes, behaviour and their body language affect the parents. As the parents‟ brought-up was different and they adopt the same measures to their children who are educated, conflict arises. The environment in which the parents were brought up was different as they were in a joint family with more children and more family members and there was caring and sharing among them. But in the twenty-first century, the concept of joint family system is unheard of and family means a group which has a father, a mother and one child or two children.
