Title: Population Health and Systems of Neurological Care
Abstract: The Burden of Disease Study 2016 assessed health care access and quality index in 195 countries and territories or locations across the world. The striking disparities in health care between and within countries has led to a call for improvement and bridging of gaps in population health and health care delivery. This chapter discusses population health and systems of neurological care. The influence of health care on health outcomes may be as low as 10–20%. Beyond biology, physical and engineering sciences, mathematics, and computational sciences, a convergence of research, policy, and implementation stakeholders is needed to fully realize population health. Social determinants of health may be defined as the social conditions that we are born and live in, interact with, and work in. Such factors include, but are not limited to, education, income, employment, working conditions, race/ethnicity, and access to health care and social support, and they are believed to be the single most important determinant of one's health.
