Abstract: Considerable evidence bas been accumulating that intellectually superior fifth-and sixth-grade pupils have both the ability and the desire to learn important mathematical concepts normally not taught until secondary school. But elementary schools have generally been unable to include advanced mathematical content in their courses of study for their more capable intermediate-grade pupils.
