Abstract: Dans toutes les cultures qui y ont eu recours, l'ecriture, nee de l'image, n'a cesse de reinventer les liens qui l'unissent au visible. Mettant en perspective des cultures possedant des systemes d'ecriture differents, et meme tres eloignes les uns des autres (ideogrammes, syllabaires, alphabet), les textes reunis ici etudient plusieurs formes visuelles de l'ecriture en Occident et en Extreme-Orient, largement meconnues en France. Claire-Akiko Brisset et Pascal Griolet analysent ainsi quelques metamorphoses etonnantes de l'ecriture japonaise, Jean-Pierre Drege et Hayashi Yuzuru les facteurs et les effets du passage du manuscrit a l'imprime en Chine et au Japon, Cecile Sakai les choix d'ecriture des romanciers japonais modernes et contemporains. Envisageant la facon dont l'ideogramme est percu en Occident, Anne-Marie Christin, Marianne Simon-Oikawa et Philippe Quinton, s'interrogent sur les formes et les enjeux de ce systeme d'ecriture qui fascine les usagers de l'alphabet. Textes religieux, romans, poemes, reflexions philosophiques, lettres, paraphes calligraphies ou logos publicitaires, les objets analyses, empruntes a un vaste champ thematique et chronologique, apportent une preuve eclatante des liens qui unissent, par-dela les civilisations, l'ecriture a l'image.
