The dystopian genre has spread in many different countries, including Sweden. This work analyses and compares the dystopian elements in two Swedish works – Karin Boye's novel Kallocain (1940) and the movie Aniara (2018), directed by Pella Kagerman and Hugo Lilja. In the first part of the work the notion of dystopia is described as well as some characteristics of dystopian fiction. This is followed by an analysis of the dystopian elements in the novel Kallocain, which mostly uses author Sarah Ljungquist's observations. After that, an analysis of the dystopian elements in the movie Aniara and its comparison with Kallocain follows. The dystopian future in these two works is depicted in a different way, however, there are many colliding points between them as well, first and foremost being the warning message to their readers and viewers, about the dark future which needs to be avoided by taking the right steps in the present.Read More
