Title: Implementation of operational aspects in the European Spacelab system engineering
Abstract: Abstract A new design and development concept called “Design for Operations” was implemented in the European Spacelab Program. The main tool in this concept is an Operational Requirements and Verification Analysis to support the System Engineering from the beginning of the design and development phase through the test and integration phase up to delivery. The analysis is explained with an example out of the checkout area. Experience about the performance and the advantageous results are represented. The overall application on other design programs of complicated constructions have been proven on the European First Spacelab Payload experiments.
