Abstract: Prabhu is best known for his seminal role in promoting the task-based approach. Yet, surprisingly for such an iconic figure, his only readily available book-length publication is Second Language Pedagogy (Prabhu 1987), making it difficult for students and researchers to trace his ideas back to their source. His many papers are relatively little known or inaccessible, apart from a few in TESOL Quarterly, and many of them appeared in relatively obscure publications in India. This book, bringing together, as it claims, all Prabhu’s published papers from 1966–2019 (though see below), fills an important gap and will be welcomed by students, teachers, and researchers alike. The 29 papers are arranged in chronological order, starting in 1966 and concluding with one specially written for this volume in 2019. In terms of thematic content, a majority focus on methodological issues. A small number, however, take up broader linguistic and educational issues, such as the role of English internationally, the purposes for which English is learned, and the rationale for English as a university discipline.
