Title: Types of figures of speech on the lyrics of Brad Paisley's selected songs
Abstract: Language becomes one of the crucial tools of human beings to communicate with one another and also to show and share feelings, knowledge, information, and to certain a situation. Without language, people will never be able to express their feelings, how to communicate with one another and the most important thing is they might do not know the message delivered through communication and will miss the communication which appears among one another. This study is focus to find types of figure of speech and the dominant types of figure of speech.
The source of the data of this qualitative descriptive study is Brad Paisley selected songs. Brad Paisley is one of the most American Country singer and songwriter. He often uses figure of speech on his lyric to make it more poetic and beautiful. In this research, the writer analyzed She’s Everything, Then, and Whiskey Lullaby lyrics. In those three songs lyric, the writer finds the types of figure of speech and then the dominant types of figure of speech.
The results of the data analysis show that there are six types of figure of speech that are used in the song of Brad Paisley; they are metaphor, hyperbole, simile, imagery, irony, and assonance. The dominant type of figure of speech is imagery and the least types of figurative language are assonance.
