Title: Children's Materials in the Public Library and the School Library Media Center in the Same Community: A Comparative Study of Use
Abstract: Use of children's books in a public and school library in the same community was studied to determine (1) whether there were differences in the types and subjects of children's books that circulated from the two libraries and (2) whether a relationship existed between the school district curriculum and the circulation of nonfiction subjects. It was found that the public library circulated significantly more easy fiction, and the school library circulated significantly more nonfiction. A significant, though weak, relationship was found between circulation of nonfiction in the elementary school library media center and the school district curriculum. Over 80 percent of the nonfiction circulated in both libraries was in subjects that matched the curriculum.
