over the world. We have many renowned writers who were awarded Sahitya Akademi awards, authors such as R.
K. Narayan, Vikram Seth, Mulkraj Anand, Ram Guha and Jerry Pinto. Many writers were nominated and awarded
prestigious awards. Indian English writers were particular in bringing out the present condition of India and the
issues in the country. Their main themes were based on women struggle and political issues. Most of the women
Indian writers like Anita Desai, Bharathi Mukerjee, Arunthathi Roy, and Kamala Das were particular in portraying
the violence against women and their struggle for existence. As Indian writing started after British rule it covers
both modern and postmodern era. Thus, the novels written during this period is viewed from modern and
postmodern perspectives. Manju Kapur is one of the novelists, who is interested in highlighting the hidden
thoughts and mindset of women through her novels. Manju Kapur‟sDifficult Daughters clearly states about both
