Title: Magnetic Field Analysis by a Hybrid Finite-Element-Boundary Element Method
Abstract: For analyzing an electromagnetic field in 2 or 3 dimensions, a finite-element method and a boundary-element method are widely used. The finite-element method has the advantages of producing a sparse matrix and being relatively well adapted to deal with nonlinearities. It has the disadvantages of requiring a large number of equations especially for 3 dimensional analysis and not being easily suited to deal with open boundary problems. The boundary-element method, on the other hand, results in fewer equations but a full matrix. It is not easily adapted to handle nonlinearities but is well suited to open boundary problems. A third method which utilizes the advantages of both methods was proposed as a "hybrid method" and is mainly applied to open space problems. In this paper, closed space problems concerning magnetic shield problems and eddy current problems were analyzed by the hybrid method.
