the assumptions on some of the features that an individual has. Research has shown
that it takes ten seconds to create an impression on someone. The first information we
have about a person has a disproportionate influence on the opinion we create about
them. There are various factors that influence the way we form first impression about
someone, such as physical appearance, sexual attraction, verbal and nonverbal
communication, and so forth. The impression we form can be either, true or false.
Stereotypes, halo effects, and implicit personality theories can be the cause of people's
misjudgment. The first impressions are very importan, especially in the business world
and during the practice of social work. First impressions that social workers make on
their clients are very important as well as the ones they make about their clients. If,
we after all leave a bad first impression, it is important to know that even though it is
extremely stable at beggining, the first impression can be changed. Given that
sometimes we will not get a second chance to make better impression it is important
to be aware of our possible mistakes and base our conclusions on all available
information so that the first impression we make on others and the one others make
about us are accurate and more complete.Read More
