Title: The Application of Construction Quality AssessmentSystem (Conquas 21) in the Construction Industry
Abstract: Construction Quality Assessment System (CONQUAS 21) is a system to assess
the quality of a building. It was developed by Construction Industry Development
Board (CIDB) Singapore (now known as Building and Construction Authority (BCA)).
Resent years, Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia has enforced
the contractors and developers to undergo quality assurance and quality control
(QAQC) in the projects. As a result, the contractors and developers are starting to
implement the QAQC in the projects and CONQUAS 21 is one the choice. However, in
Malaysia, the applying of CONQUAS 21 is limited at big companies with great
financial and well understanding in CONQUAS 21. Therefore, postal questionnaire is
conducted to gain the information from the contractors and developers around the Kuala
Lumpur and Selangor area regarding the application of CONQUAS 21. The data
collected are then being analyzed by using frequency distribution, measurement of
central tendency and scoring method. From the data analysis, the main advantages of
CONQUAS 21 are to benchmark the quality control of workmanship in the construction
site and provide a standard quality assessment system to evaluate workmanship. Even
though there are a lot of advantages from applying CONQUAS 21, but most of the
respondents agree that CONQUAS 21 requires a lot of time and workforce for the
inspection. As a summary, future research is suggested to compare the preference of the
application between the CONQUAS 21 and the QLASSIC and to find out the
improvement of the impacts from the implementing CONQUAS 21 in construction
industry.
