Title: To cure the idiopathic macular hole using inner limiting membrane peeling
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the curative effect of vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane peeling in the treatment of idiopathic macular hole. Methods Preoperative and postoperative visual function, closure of macular hole and postoperatively major complications were checked up and followed up in 15 consecutive patients (15eyes) with idiopathic macular hole who underwent vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane peeling. Results Internal limiting membrane was successfully peeled in 15 cases. After following up for 6~24 months, macular hole of 13 eyes were completely closed, 2 eyes were not closed. The successful closure rate was 86.66%. And the visual acuity of 14 eyes was improved (89.33%). The symptom of deformation had noticeable improvements. The major complications were capillary haemorrhage, temporary high intraoenlar pressure and lens opacity. Conclusions Vitrectomy combined with internal limiting membrane peeling is effective in the treatment of idiopathic macular hole and improves visual function.
