Title: Therapeutic effects of ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy in treating 568 ureteral calculi cases
Abstract: Objectives To evaluate the efficacy, safety and influencing factors of ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy in treating ureteral calculi. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the data of 568 patients from March 2008 to January 2012 who underwent ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy, and evaluate the efficacy, safety and influencing factors. Results The overall success rate of fragmentation for all levels of ureteral calculi in a single procedure was 98.42% (559/568).Among which, the success rate was 89.09% (49/55) in upper ureter,98.94% (187/189) in middle ureter, and 99.69% (323/324) in lower ureter. The mean operative time was (25.6 ±10.3) min.No severe complications occurred during the operation. Conclusions Ureteroscopic holmium laser lithotripsy is a highly effective and safe therapy for patients with ureteral calculi. The site of ureteral calculi, the stricture or twist of ureter and the shift of ureteral calculi are the factors influencing the the operation.
