Title: Relationship between pulse pressure and carotid intimia-media thickness and serum homocysteine level in essential hypertensive patients
Abstract: Objective To investigate the relationship between pulse pressure and serum homocysteine level and carotid intimia-media thickness in essential hypertensive patients. Methods Sixty-four essential hypertensive patients were grouped as the simple systolic hypertensive group(group A,n=22),systolic and diastolic hypertensive group(group B,n=22),the simple diastolic hypertensive group(group C,n=20),21 healthy subjects served as control(group N,n=20).Pulse pressures were measured, serum level of homocysteine were determined using ELISA method.Carotid intimia-media thickness were measured or calculated by establish formulas. Results ①Serum homocyteine level in hypertensive group was significantly higher than normotensive group(P<0.01),the pulse pressure and serum homocysteine level with A group were significantly higher than other groups(P<0.01).②Carotid intimia-media thickness in hypertensive group were significantly higher than normotensive group(P<0.01).The carotid intimia-media thickness in A group were higher than other groups(P<0.05).Conclusion Pulse pressure and serum homocysteine level may be play important roles in arterial atherosclerosis in essential hypertension.
