Title: The efficacy of radiofrequency ablation combined with ozone therapy for lumbar disc herniation
Abstract: Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of radiofrequency ablation combined with ozone therapy in the treatment of lumbar disc herniation ( LDH ).Methods The data on 150 patients with LDH who had been hospitalized during the period of February 2008 to June 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were randomly assigned to receive radiofrequency ablation combined with ozone therapy ( 75 patients, study group ),or traditional lumbar discectomy ( 75 patients, control group ).The efficacy of the two procedures and the postoperative recovery were compared between the two groups. Results The scores on the VAS were markedly lower in the study group than in the control group on months 1 and 3.The effectiveness rate was signifiantly higher in the study group than in the control group 3 months after the procedure, with a statistical significance ( P< 0.05 ).Conclusions Radiofrequency ablation combined with ozone therapy for lumbar disc herniation can effectively relieve postoperative pain in patients and improve the efficacy, and has a better safety. It is worth popularizing clinically.
