Title: Effect of oral contraceptive pretreatment on the outcome of pregnancy in normal weight PCOS patients
Abstract: Objective
To investigate the effect of oral contraceptive pretreament on the outcome of in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection-embryo transplantation (IVF/ICSI-ET) of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) patients with normal weight.
Methods
A total of 765 PCOS patients with normal body mass who experienced long protocol of short-acting IVF/ICSI-ET from January 2015 to December 2017 in the Reproductive Center of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University were selected. Of them, 105 patients were subjected to pituitary down-regulation after the ovulation as group A; while 660 patients with oral contraceptive pretreatment were selected as group B. The dosage of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRHA), gonadotropin (Gn), time of superovulation, intimal thickness of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) trigger day, number of embryo harvested, fertilization rate, implantation rate and pregnancy rate were compared between the two groups.
Results
The fertility rate of group B was significantly higher than that of group A (80.1% vs. 83.0%, P 0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of GnRHa, Gn dosage and time, excellent embryo rate or the incidence of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome between the two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusions
For PCOS patients with normal weight, GnRHa pituitary pretreatment with oral short-acting contraceptives is conducive to catching the timing of pituitary down regulation and super-promotional, but it has no significant improvement in pregnancy outcome.
