Title: Risk factors of the early cholangitis after Kasai operation for biliary atresia in children
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the factors affecting the early post-operative cholangeitis after classical Kasai operation for biliary atresia (BA) in children. Methods The clinical data of thirty-five BA children from pediatric surgery department of Nanjing Childrens Hospital was retrospectively analyzed using binary logistic regression analysis. Results The occurrence of early cholangitis after classical Kasai operation was found to correlate with post-op biliary drainage effect, hormone therapy and the length of Roux-loop in operation. No correlation could be established between early cholangeitis and sex, age, total bilirubin and pre-op liver function, ursodeoxycholic and luminal therapy, the installation of anti-refluxing valve in operation and the dosage of antibiotics. Conclusions Good biliary drainage, hormone therapy and sufficient length of Roux-loop were associated with decreased risk of early cholangitis.
