Title: Expression and clinical implications of p53 and proliferation cell nuclear antigen in hepatocellular carcinoma
Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression and clinical implications of p53 and proliferation cell nuclear antigen (Ki-67) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).Methods Tissue microarray and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to detect the expression of p53 and Ki-67 in 87 HCC patients. Results The positive expression of p53 was correlated to the histological grade, lymph node metastasis and serum AFP level (P < 0.05),but not to other clinical factors (P > 0.05).The expression of Ki-67 in HCC patients was correlated with histological grade,TNM stage and lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05),but not to other clinical factors (P > 0.05).Among the patients positive for the expression of p53 and Ki67,their middle survival months were shorter than those negative for the expression (x2 =31.256,P <0.01;x2 =41.366,P< 0.01).The expression of p53 had no correlation with the expression of Ki-67 (r =0.003,P > 0.05).Conclusion The positive expression of p53 and Ki-67 correlates with the clinical prognosis of HCC.
